So nobody asked for this, but I just felt like sharing anyway.
I got into the TMNT fandom back in early September of 2012, BUT it was before the 2012 Nickelodeon series had aired. Like literally days. One morning I was getting ready to go to school and I had a little bit of time while I waited on my mom to finish getting ready so she could drive me to school. In that time I had to spare, I turned on the TV where I came across the title “TMNT.” I thought to myself, “Okay, I think that’s the ninja turtle thing. I’ve never seen it. Isn’t it for boys – like Power Rangers?” But nonetheless I decided to give it a try and clicked to watch it. The scene that I started watching was the exact scene in the movie where Raph and Leo were fighting. I had missed the scene right before where they were talking, so what I saw was where the boys were fighting without dialogue. I was absolutely confused because I thought to myself, “Wait. They’re brothers, right? Why are they fighting? Like they actually look like they’re trying to kill each other. Wow, this is way darker than I thought this was.” And then I thought, “Okay, so I know there’s a Michelangelo… and I think a Leonardo…? I can’t think of the other’s names. But I think they’re all named after Renaissance artists.” So, I continued to watch, because I wanted to know why they were fighting. I watched up until they were about to have the final fight towards the end of the movie (because I had to eventually go to school lol) and I recorded it so I could see the entire movie.
When I finally saw the full movie, I fell in love. Leonardo was instantly my favorite of the boys. Then a couple days later, I heard about the new television show coming to Nickelodeon and lo and behold it was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the 2012 series. I was shocked because up until then, I wasn’t aware of the new show. But since I knew that I had loved the 2007 film, I gave the new show a try. Aaaand I fell in love with that as well. It definitely did not take me long to watch every single new episode that aired. Over time, I got into the old 1990’s live action films. I’m proud to say that I stayed with the 2012 tv series all five years of its showing. Thinking back, it’s actually crazy to me that i’ve loved the turtles since 2012. Then the Bayverse turtles happened, and again just more love for them. I was honestly super sad to see the 2012 series come to an end in 2017. I thought to myself, “Okay, it was fun while it lasted, but now it’s time to grow up and get into older shows.” And when I heard about Rottmnt, I just wasn’t feeling it. I was like, “I’ve enjoyed my time in this fandom, but I probably won’t get into this new series.” Aaaand now here we are, I saw the sneak peek and I am sucked back into this fandom. But honestly, I’m not even complaining because I’m so excited for this new show. It aires a day before my birthday and I cannot be happier. This fandom is absolutely my guilty pleasure and I don’t see myself getting out of it anytime soon.
So yeah, that’s my story on how I got into this fandom. I’d love it if you guys reblog and share your stories on when you got the turtle fever and what series/movie sucked you in !!
Im…. not entirely sure how I got into the fandom?? I mainly remember seeing the 2012 show air on nickelodeon when I was younger and LOVING IT AND LIVING FOR IT (*cough cough* and having a huge admiration for Raph *cough cough*) until I somehow got distracted and didnt get to watch it as much.
I’m actually planning to pick it back up whenever I can again, along with the other series’ (I am trying sUPER hard to keep up with Rottmnt!!). Cause just, in general I love these guys? I’m pretty sure they’re the reason I’m drawn to my other main fandom Transformers, I just really enjoy them! (I remember when I started talking about Rotmnt and literally all of my family was like: ‘oh yeah I remember when you were obsessed with that when you were littler’ and I dont?? Remember it well?? Lmao I wish I did!)
So yeah, not a HUGE origin story but,, I always just felt a connection to the show? So now I’m trying my best to come back to it! I miss the bros!
My mom loved the original 80′s cartoon and so naturally she let me watch it and I loved it. (This is also how I got into Transformers, that’s another story). Back when we had cable for like, 4 months, I remember watching an episode or two of the 2003 TMNT show, I loved/love that series. I also remember hanging over at my best friend’s house across the hall from our apartment (I practically lived at his house) and he had the 2007 movie and I was like, holy shit this is really good animation and it’s TMNT. I had a mild obsession for the movie and watched it, a lot.
I also remember my “dad” having me watch the original TMNT live-action movies, since he loved the 80′s cartoon too. Then I remember being hyped when I saw on Nickelodeon that they were coming out with a new cartoon (my mom was like ‘meh, my cartoon was better) and I watched it and I fell in love with TMNT even more. I never got to watch the entire series, but I remember major plot points up until the first time after they leave NYC, then I stopped paying attention to the cartoon cause I didn’t want spoilers.
Then the Bayverse movie came out and I was like “FUCK YEAH!!” and I got excited when the 2nd one came out, but I still haven’t seen it, sadly. I got depressed when I heard they ended TMNT12 last year but then I heard about ROTTMNT and I was like “Why. Pls stop, don’t be like the new Thundercats.” I thought I was going to hate it and then I watched the first episode and I cried. I loved it! It’s so cute and wholesome
